When the Model Says Sit Out

Everything so far is about taking the trade. This is the other half of the edge: the days and the moments where the correct trade is no trade at all.

The Days I Don’t Trade

  • No SSMT in the window. The base condition never formed, so there is nothing to confirm and nothing to enter. Close the charts flat — that is the model working, not a wasted day.

  • No read. All-time highs with no cracks in correlation anywhere is the market telling you nothing. When Monday opens like that, let Monday do its thing and wait for price to show you the crack.

  • Fed speakers and red-folder chop. When a speaker is live through the window, price chops — and the real move tends to come only once they stop talking. Either stand down or wait for the noise to end and the model to form. Never trade through it just because you’re at the desk.

  • Bank holiday weeks and early closes. Thin sessions don’t deliver properly. Markets closing early or closed the next day — that’s a no-trading day, full stop.

The Moments I Stop

  • After the trade. One trade, win, lose or break-even — the window is over. Even if price then runs straight to what would have been your target: without the model present, there is nothing to take. Don’t chase your own idea.

  • No reconfirmation, no second bullet. First entry before 9:30 stopped out and the idea never reconfirms after the open? The second half of the risk stays in the chamber. That’s the discipline side of the two-bullet rule.

  • Missed it? It’s gone. A setup that formed eight minutes into the window before the analysis was done is a missed trade, not an invitation to enter late at worse risk.

  • 10:30 EST. Done. There is no version of the model that exists at 11:00 because you’re bored.

  • The account-killers aren’t usually bad entries — they’re trades that should never have existed: the news chop, the revenge trade, the boredom trade, the chase. Every one of them is removed by a rule on this page. Sitting on your hands is a skill. Treat it like one.
