Track Everything — Data Kills Doubt

Discipline isn’t a personality trait — it’s a by-product of data. You don’t trust the model because I told you to. You trust it because your own numbers leave you no choice.

Why Data Beats Mindset Work

Most of trading psychology disappears on its own once the stats exist. No FOMO — you know exactly what you’re waiting for. No emotional swing on a win or a loss — you know your win rate, and both outcomes are priced into the system. A losing trade inside a model with a healthy profit factor isn’t a crisis; it’s a data point. The trader without data has to feel their way through a drawdown. The trader with data just checks the numbers and carries on.

What I Log on Every Single Trade

The strategy and its rules as a pre-trade checklist (SSMT, tCISD, before or after the 9:30 open), entry and exit times, fixed risk percentage, the R result, a screenshot, a star rating for setup quality, and tags. The tags matter more than people think — the more information you feed the journal, the more patterns it can hand back. And keep the screenshots: scroll your own playbook and every winner should look the same. Those are the only trades you hunt.

Backtest Until the Trade Is Boring

One model, one month, fixed risk, fixed 2R, break-even at 1R — journal every setup the model produced, including the losses and the break-evens, through good weeks and ugly ones. Run that honestly and the model stops being a belief and becomes a statistic. I’ve done this live on a month I’d call genuinely messy — record highs, no news flow — and the model still finished comfortably positive with a win rate far above what a 2R system needs. That’s the test that matters: not cherry-picked conditions, bad ones.

Let the Data Talk Back

This is where it compounds. Ask the data where your losses cluster and it will tell you things no gut feeling ever could — mine once showed the majority of losses landing on entries before the 9:30 open, with a one-line instruction attached: cut pre-9:30 entries for a week and review. That’s hours of spreadsheet work delivered in seconds, and it’s exactly the kind of pattern that quietly drains accounts for years when nobody’s logging anything.
